About Tiverton
People have been living in the Tiverton area since the Stone Age and many fascinating historical relics have been uncovered in the area. King Henry I (who ruled England from 1100-1135) chose Tiverton as the locale for a castle. Tiverton Castle was built in 1106 and upgraded in the 13th and 14th centuries.
The wool trade in the 16th and 17th centuries caused Tiverton to prosper, and many influential wool merchants invested in the area. One of these merchants bequeathed the land and funds required to open Blundell’s School in 1604. The school moved to its current location in 1882 and provides young people with top-quality education to this day.
